Ravi Rampaul stars in West Indies 8 wickets win over India

West Indies bounced back strongly after the deafeat in 1st ODI and take the revenge with a comfortable 8 wickets win over India in the 2nd ODI on June, 28th at Jamaica.

India bowled out on 188 runs in 48.2 overs due to fine bowling by Ravi Rampaul who took career best figure of 4 wickets for 37 runs, Jerom Taylor and Davon Bravo took 3 wickets each. Dhoni played an inning of 95 runs and put 101 runs 9th wicket partnership with RP Singh.

Chris Gayle and Rukardo Morton then scored 101 runs for the opening wicket, contributed 64 runs and 85 not out to seal a comfortable 8 wicket win.

India win a thriller by defeating West Indies by 20 runs

India survived a mighty scare as West Indies succumbed by just 20 run short of victory. Both Ramnaresh Sarawan and Chanderpaul led West Indies close to the target but eventually 340 was a bit too much to ask for West Indies who did not get the start from Chris Gayle as he generally is known for.

Yuvraj Singh (131 of 102 balls) scored a brilliant century to revive a dropping Indian batting order, M S Dhoni (41) played second fiddle when Yuvraj was going great guns. Yusuf Pathan scored a quickfire 40 along with Harbhajan Singh (21 of 13 balls) to take India to 339/6 in the stipulated 50 overs.

Chris Gayle will have to fire to overcome this huge target to restrict India to go 1 / 0 up in the series.

Earlier in the inning, a much needed partnership of Dinesh Karthik and Yuvraj Singh gave some respite to the Indian scoreboard. A partnership of 135 after two quick wickets falling in a span of a few minutes saw India in trouble.

Gautam Gambhir couldnt handle the short pitched delivery by Taylor and was caught out as he mistimed his hook shot. Rohit Sharma followed Gambhir's footstep and showed the weakness against the short pitched bouncers. India struggled early by losing it's top order batsman, someone had to build on from there.. and in came Yuvraj Sing. He started slow and cautiously playing his shorts, his innings had some sort of maturity and demonstrated his power towards the end of his innings.

Mohammad Ashraful greets the new captain Mashrafe Mortaza

Mashrafe Mortaza seems to have a great year. Being purchased by Kolkatta Knightriders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at a whopping 6 million USD and now being named as the new Captain to succeed over Mohammad Ashraful for the forthcoming West Indies tour. He could not have asked for more for this year.

Bangladesh getting a bad welcome after an unsuccessful campaign of the 20 20 World Cup as compared to Ireland and Netherland. The defeat at the hands of Ireland was not expected and accepted by the Board and the fans. Some major changes were expected as seen in the captaincy move.

Fidel Edward’s injury a boon for India

India might have failed to impress anyone on their approach to the pace and bounce that they faced during the Super Eight league of T20 World Cup. Fidel Edwards was a nemesis with his slinging bouncers which made life tough for the Indian batting order who failed to cope his magic.

His absence in the 4 ODI’s starting tomorrow onwards will be a big plus for the Indian’s. Fidel will be missed badly by West Indies as he grabbed an injury during the 20 20 World Cup last month.

Younis Khan retires from 20 20 Cricket

Younis Khan would not have got another brilliant opportunity to announce his retirement from the shorter version of the game. A trend which was first set by the Indian senior players (Dravid, Tendulkar & Ganguly) of saying NO to the shorter and high paced version of cricket

Lifting the trophy was the sweetest moment for Younis Khan. He mentioned
“This is my last Twenty20 game, I'm old now for this kind of cricket."

He dedicated the victory to the late Bob Woolmer, ex coach of Pakistan (mysteriously died in West Indies) saying:

"This final must go to Bob Woolmer, He was doing good things with us in 2005 and especially my cricket. I would be very proud if he was alive and sitting with me because he's a very nice guy and was a father figure for us. Why I am captain is because in 2005 - at that time I was not a regular player for Pakistan - he was the guy who all the time was chatting with the chairman and the selectors that Younis will be the next captain. So because of him I have became a captain. I dedicate this final to Bob Woolmer."

So in all a well called decision by Younis Khan on a glorious eve for Pakistan cricket.

20 20 World Cup Finals, Pakistan v Sri Lanka, Finals ICC T20 World Cup on 21 June 2009

The last two World cups have been experiencing an all Asia clashes, where last ICC 20 20 World cup was between India and Pakistan, where India emerged winners and this time around Pakistan again making it to the finals looking seem to be favourites and lifting the trophy.

Sri Lanka had an awesome tournament till now with a run of no losses in this tournament and is a tough contender for the championship title. Both teams being involved in a massive terrorist attack in the infamous Lahore incident have recovered well to make it to the finals of the ICC 20 20 World Cup.

It had been a swift move to the finals for Sri Lanka, with confident cricket and a perfect team effort. For Pakistan it had been a rough start in the beginning and for once it had the scare of being thrown out by new comers Ireland. But Pakistan pulled it over very well and had been just growing in confidence since then. If Pakistan does not win the championship it would be another heart break for them.

So keep your eye glued here for more updates on the final stage of ICC 20 20 World Cup Championship.

Sri Lanka beat West Indies in 2nd Semi Finals, T Dilshan swings his bat to victory

A massive defeat for West Indies going down to Sri Lanka by 56 runs (a huge number for a 20 20 over match) . Sri Lanka makes it way to the finals of the World Cup.

A brief summary of the game:
Sri Lanka 158 for 5 (Dilshan 96*) beat West Indies 101 (Gayle 63*, Mathews 3-16, Muralitharan 3-29) by 57 runs

Tillakaratne Dilshan was an one man army for Sri Lanka’s batting order scoring the highest individual score by any player in this ICC 20 20 World Cup, he managed to remain unbeaten at 96 in 56 balls (he was unable to score a century as he didn’t retain strike and his partner at the other end A Mathews was going great guns).

West Indies had an aweful start losing 3 early wickets in the first over by A Mathews. The score read 1 for 3 at the end of the first over, Three top order batsmen gone in the first over Xavier Marshall, Lendl Simmons & Dwayne Bravo. Chris Gayle was the lonesome warrior who remained unbeaten on 63 runs which could not help the team to earn a victory. Tackling the spin wizards in Ajantha Mendis and M Murlitharan and early blows by A Mathews, West Indies was never a threat for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Vs West Indies 2nd Semifinal Live Scores, 20 20 World Cup, SRL v WIN Squads & Timings

In the 2nd semi final of T20 World Cup 2009, the two strong teams Sri Lanka and West Indies will play today at Kennington Oval, London starting from 17:30 local , 16:30 GMT , 21:30 Pakistan, 22:00 India, 20:30 UAE.

Sri Lanka has good spin attack with experienced Muttiah Muralitharan and mystery man Ajantha Mendis who is bowling very well in this tournament so far and disturbing opposition batsmen. Both are bowling with a good economy rate which is really impressive in T20 cricket matches. Lasith Malinga and young Isuru Udana are handling pace attack for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka team is a balanced team with experienced batsmen Dilshan, Jayasuria, Sangakkara and Jayawardene as well as young Chamara Silva and Mathews.

West Indies has a great batting lineup with some big hitters like opener Andre Fletcher, all rounder Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Lendl Simmons and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin. West Indies must need a massive inning from Skipper Chris Gayle who fired on Australian bowlers. The strong point of West Indies is their pace attack with Bravo, Simmons, Jerome Taylor and Pollard. Tall left arm spinner Sulieman Benn can disturb Sri Lanka players who are very good to play spin.

Sri Lanka Playing 11 for Today Match

Sanath Jayasuriya, T Dilshan, Kumara Sangakkara (C/WK), Mahela Jayawardene, Chamara Silva, Jehan Mubarak, Angelo Mathews, T Udana, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga.

West Indies Playing 11 for Today Match

Chris Gayle (C), Andre Fletcher, Lendl Simmons, Shivanrine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (WK), Kieron Pollard, Suleiman Benn, Darren Sammy, Jerome Taylor.

Pakistan
149 for 4 (Afridi 51, Malik 34) beat South Africa 142 for 5 (Kallis 64, Duminy 44*, Afridi 2-16) by seven runs

Shahid Afridi awoke late in the tournament but for good. His knock of 51 came at the right moment which lifted Pakistan towards yet another moment of glory with just one game away from lifting the ICC 2020 World Cup.

Pakistan made it to the finals thanks to Shahid Afridi’s invaluable knock of 51 runs and also a superb line and length bowling taking two important wickets and restricting the South African batsmen to score runs freely. His bowling figures were: 4 overs 16 runs 2 wickets at 4.00 runs per over.
