England won the 5th Test by 197 runs, won the Ashes Test Series by 2-1

England won the 5th test match against Australia by 197 runs on the 4th day of the match and regained the Ashes test series by 2-1 on August 23rd, 2009 at Oval. Australia chasing a record total of 546 in the 2nd inning all out on 348 runs.

Australia started the day from 80/0 but both overnight openers gone early and then Ponting 66 runs and Hussey 121 runs brought them back in the match but two run outs in 2 overs pushed them on back foot.

Graem Swann took 4 wickets but it's Stuart Broad who bowled magical spell in the 1st inning with 5 wickets got Man of the Match award. Andrew Strauss of England and Michal Clarke of Australia shared the Man of the Series Award.


Australia slipped to 4th place in ICC's test ranking and England up at 5th place.

Dolar and Mushfiqur stars in Bangladesh win over Zimbabve in 5th ODI, won series by 4-1

Bangladesh 212 for 5 (Mushfiqur Rahim 98) beat Zimbabwe 209 all out (Taylor 61) by five wickets.

Bangladesh won the 5th and final ODI against Zimbabwe by 5 wickets with 13 balls remaining and clinched the series by 4-1, their 3rd consecutive series win. Fast bowler Dolar Mehmud took 4 wickets for 28 runs and bowled out Zimbabwe to 209 runs as only Brendan Taylor made a defiant half-century with 61 runs.

Bangladesh easily chased the target with 13 balls and 5 wickets remaining and won the series by 4-1. Wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim missed a well deserved century and out on 98 runs.

Tamim Iqbal awarded Man of the Series for his good show in the series.

Australian player approached by bookie

An Australian player was approached by a bookie during their Australian stay at the London Hotel. This created panic in the team management who eventually reported the incident to ICC's Anti-corruption unit to clear of any unnecessary charges.

The player was approached by a suspicious person who seemed to be having links with the illegal bookmaking and the player reported this to the senior officials, which created furor in the Australian team. The ICC appreciated the honesty and the prompt report which has resolved any kind of doubt or suspect on the player.

Indian selectors announced Indian ODI team for tri series in Sri Lanka and Champions trophy in September, 2009 and the highlight of the selection was return of "The wall" Rahul Dravid in one day team after a long time as played his last ODI in October, 2007.

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 52 runs in one off T20, Afridi Man of the Match

Shahid Afridi played a captain's inning of 50 runs and took 1 wicket in one off Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka by 52 runs on August 12, 2009 at Colombo.T20 World Champions Pakistan once again outperformed Sri Lanka in the shortest version of the game.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first made 172/5 in 20 overs. Imran Nazir hit 40 runs and Shahid Afridi made 50 runs while Umar Akmal and Abdul Razzaq contributed 30 runs and 25 not out respectively.

Sri Lanka in reply bowled out on 120 runs in 18.1 overs and only Sangakkara scored 38 runs due to fine bowling by Saeed Ajmal and Naved-ul-Hasan took 3 wickets each.

Four new Venues for IPL3 - One extra match for Third place

Third edition of IPL will have four new venues which will start from March 12 to April 25 2009. Four new venues are the Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Dharamsala hosting some games of the Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, respectively.

IPL3 will have 60 games instead of regular 59 games tournament and one extra game will be for third place between the losing semi-finalists and that team will qualify for the T20 Champions League.

Good news for ICL players as they can participate in IPL3 and they will be valued in two categories; Indian domestic players will be paid Rs 8-20 lakh ($18,000-45,000) while foreign players will be made available through auction, depending on their demand.

Strategic timeout will also reduced from seven-and-a-half minutes to five in third edition of IPL. IPL commissioner Lalit Modi also announced 2 extra franchises for the 2010 season through an auction to be held next January, and the tournament will expand from 60 games to 94.

Sachin Tendulkar says Sehwag comes closest to his style of batting | Sachin aims for 15K runs in Test

Excerpts of an interview given by Sachin Tendulkar to Wisden Cricketer reveals that Sachin has a desire to reach 15,000 runs in Test cricket as Sunil Gavaskar requested him to do so and also would be unhappy if he didn’t manage to get the runs to reach that landmark. Excerpts also reveals that he is not very pleased with the comments by John Buchanan about Sachin unable to handle the short deliveries, and justified himself by saying that John need not be correct always, and he needs to correct himself in saying so as if he (Sachin) has problems facing the short pitch deliveries than why has he been scoring heavily against the top bowlers in world cricket.

He also mentioned in his interview that Sehwag is the closest one who has reached to his caliber in terms of batting style.
