Jacob Oram's hat-trick helps New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 3 runs in 1st T20

Jacob Oram took 2nd hat-trick of the Twenty20 and guided New Zealand to a thrilling victory against Sri lanka in the 1st Twenty20 game on September 2nd, 2009 at Colombo.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first managed 141 run for 8 wickets in 20 overs as only Ross Taylor scored a fighting 60 runs. Lasith Malinga took 2 wickets for Sri Lanka.


In reply, Sri Lanka started well by in-form batsman Tilakratne Dilshan who scored 28 balls 57 runs with 8 fours and 2 sixes but tight bowling by captain Daniel Vettori took 2 wickets for just 11 runs and Jacob Oram's hat-trick secured a close 3 run victory for visitors.

Daniel Vettori got Man of the Match for his economical bowling.

New Zealand 141 for 8 (Taylor 60, Malinga 2-21) beat Sri Lanka 137 for 9 (Dilshan 57, Oram 3-32) by three runs

Shane Bond has come back in the team and that will boost their moral as they were struggling in fast bowling department.

Second and final test match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka begins from Wednesday, August 22 at Colombo. Sri lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in a delayed start.

Sri Lanka made 3 change in their team which won the 1st test as Chamara Kapugedera replaced injured Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis made way for left arm spinner Rangana Herath and Dammika Prasad for rested Nuwan Kulasekara.

New Zealand gone with the same team and the ICL player Daryl Tuffy has to wait more for International return.

New Zealand won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat in the 1st test match on Tuesday, 18th August, 2009 at Galle. Sri Lanka lost 2 wickets for 20 runs in 3 overs, as opener Paranavitana out on duck and captain Sangakkara out on 8 runs in the delayed start 1st test by 90 minutes due to rain.

Ajantha Mendis has been included in place of Rangana Herath while Prasanna Jayawardhane also return as a regular wicket keeper and Tilakratne Dilshan will open the inning.

For New Zealand jacob Oram come back in test team and spinner Jeetan Patel has been included in the team with spin expected to play a big role in the latter part of the match.
