Can India be Number 1 in ICC ODI Rankings? Gary Kirsten confident India can do it

Gary Kirsten the high profile Indian coach being lauded for his excellent performance under whose belt India has managed to win five consecutive bilateral ODI series is very confident and charged up by the fact that India should manage to bag the number one position in ODI Cricket.

Gary Kirsten is eager to get the number 1 coach tag on his CV and he is very in doing that feat.

"We have set our goals," Kirsten said, as teh team gets ready to depart for Sri Lanka . "One of them is to be the best cricket team in the world. We are headed that way and we are very excited. We know we have to perform well as we continue the quest to be the best. We won the last two series in Sri Lanka and we are confident. But we think ahead and don't harp on the results of the past.

"We have got a good batting line-up which is quite flexible in the middle. We would like to mix it up during the series. We have got a very good run in one-day cricket. We have got good depth in the side and the younger players have proved themselves."

Kirsten hints fatigue played a role in India’s early depart from the T20 World Cup

Gary Kirsten the high profile coach of India who had a very fine run of victories by the Indian Team had to suffer a major loss / setback in his CV. Kirsten had pin pointed the issue before the start of the T20 Worlds Cup that the Indian team might be mentally fatigued with an overrun of cricket happening in the last 3 months.

Kirsten spoke to news persons after the loss against England : "Fatigue was definitely a factor, as were many other things, I don't want to use that as an excuse but it was a factor. We weren't an energetic team, like we were in New Zealand where the levels of energy were really good. We didn't get up to the same level on this tour"

Highly competitive and fast cricket had been the cause of India’s failure in the T20 World Cup, with all 11 players including the other bench players who had been vigorously involved in the IPL 2009.

Both Dilip Vengsarkar & Sachin Tendulkar had also raised a concern regarding this issue which has apparently come true in terms of result in performance.

But looking at this Australia who had unofficially boycotted the IPL 2009 (with minimum participation of its players) was the first team to get out the competition. wat say :-)

The other reason which Kirsten failed or resisted to mention was the inability to cope the bouncers which the opponent teams used very well against India. India beware of these bouncers as I can see them coming more in future.
