Kings XI Punjab missed an easy chance to qualify for the 2009 IPL semis as they were unable to chase a low target of 116 runs and bowled out on 92/8 in 20 overs thus giving a 24 runs to Chennai Super Kings, finished 2nd spot in IPL2 points table with 17 points on Thursday, May 19th at Durban.
Chennai similar to Rajasthan Royal's inning in their innings failed to score a big score and managed only 116/9 in 20 overs even though they got a good start by Parthiv Patel and Bailey up the order with 40 runs in 5 overs.
Punjab started cautiously in tough condition's and were never allowed to score heavily by spinners Muralitharan, Ashwin and Suresh Raina, who shared 6 wickets only for 38 runs in 12 overs with 2 wickets each. Pomersbach was the highest scorer for Punjab scoring 26 runs.
