Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 97 runs in Compaq Cup 1st Match - Samarweera's century helps SL a bonus point



Thilan Samarweera hit a brilliant century in the 1st match of Compaq Cup and helped Sri Lanka toa big 97 runs win against New Zealand on Tuesday, September 8 at Colombo. This 97 runs win also earns Sri Lanka a crucial bonus point in the short tournament.

Sri Lanka opted to bat first made 216 for 7 wickets thanks to a brilliant century by Samarweera in a difficult condition. Samarweera hit 104 runs with 10 fours well supported by Angelo Mathew with 51 runs.

New Zealand lost 3 wickets for just 7 runs in 5 overs and never come back in the match and only Grant Elliot scored 41 runs and New Zealand all out on 119 runs in 36.1 overs. Lasith Malinga took 4 wickets for 28 runs.
