4 in a trot - India lose out to New Zealand once again; New Zealand had been a real nemesis for India in world Twenty20 Cricket, and India will be wary about this fact as they fight to defend the Championship.
India had a good chase; but could not hang on till the end losing out by just 9 runs.
Earlier New Zealand had a good outing for most of their batsmen contributing enough to score a competitive 170 losing 7 wickets in the bargain. Ross Taylor continuing his good form from the IPL scored 41, along with support from Brendan McCullum who scored a quick 31 opening the innings, Franklin who has moulded himself into a fine allrounder scored a swift 27 towards the end of the inning helping NZ to score 170 runs.
India started the chase well with Gambhir and Rohit Sharma opening the innings in the absence of Virendra Sehwag. Both Zaheer Khan and Viru had to be left out for this tie due to injury scare. India just didn’t have the fuel remaining as they lost wickets at regular intervals, which made the score impossible at the end of the inning.
In all, a good learning curve and also a nice wake up call for any sort of complacency entering the minds of the Indian players, being the defending champions.
