Australia defeat New Zealand in the warm up tie of T20 World Cup

Brief Summary of the match between Australia vs New Zealand (warm up match)

Australia 151 for 3 (Ponting 56, Clarke 49*) beat New Zealand 147 (Styris 42, Johnson 4-20) by seven wickets

A clinical display by the former world champions Australia who defeated New Zealand by seven wickets. Earlier New Zealand could manage 147 with some better performance from the middle order as Scott Styris and keeper PD McGlashan scored valuable 42 and 49 runs respectively. Kiwi batsmen were kept under control by Aussie pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee. Mitchell Johnson took 4 wickets giving 5 runs an over and Brett Lee’s miserly 3.5 over gave away just 9 runs with the wicket of Brendan McCullum.

Australia chased well with Ponting leading from the front along with his deputy Micheal Clark. Ponting scored a brisk 56 & M Clarke accompanied him well with a well paced 49, after the openers failed to get some a healthy score on the board. The two batsmen led Australia to an easy win giving them added confidence in winning the Championship as they have a bad reputation in the shorter version of the game.
